I have been a fan of Asian dramas for a while. First Japanese dramas, then Korean. after about a year of K-drama obsession, I took a break to watch Gokusen. I was hooked right off. It has just the right balance of comedy and serious stuff in each episode. One major difference that I noticed: Korean dramas typically end each episode with an unbearable cliff-hanger, so I just have to see what happens next. The story drags on for 16 (or more) episodes, and ends with a rushed wrap-up in the last episode that leaves me feeling unsatisfied. Gokusen is different in that each episode is a self-contained story with a heart-rending conclusion. There's no cliff-hanger that makes me crazy to find out what happens next. It's the quality of the story that brings me back, not a tricky writer's technique. The characters develop and relationships progress, but the central aspect of each episode is an exploration of one honorable virtue, such as true friendship, the meaning of family or the difference between random violence and fighting to protect something precious. I have to take time after each episode to digest the lesson. Great series!

I love the gokusen anime and I was wondering if there was anymore than the three disks that were released in the US? Does the story go on or does it end when Shin saves Yankumi in disk three? It just seems like there is more to the story. If you could get back to me that would be great. Thanks for your time.

Hi Emily, I hadn't visited your site for awhile and was very pleasantly surprised to find that you had updated to show the new season three. My wife is Japanese and we had been able to watch the previous seasons when we had access to TV Japan. Alas, now we have moved and no longer get TV Japan. I do have a very nice sister-in-law who recorded the first episode of season three (in japanese, of course) which I couldn't completely understand (my very kawaii wife is a better translator sometimes than others). its been awhile since ive seen gokusen... ive yet to see gokusen 2... but i am quite hesitant... i still consider the 1st as the best... i love the cast, the story, the songs, the lessons... i love everything about it... i guess i will never get over them... especially with OGURI SHUN in the cast... he adds color to my life... Nice website! I am a fan of the manga and anime. The JDrama is "okay" because I was very irritated how far off it strays from the true Morimoto manga and there was not true ShinKumi moments. Good job though on your site!

I love gokusen drama series, but the art throughs me off in the manga and anime, but hey, more shinkumi shippers. But gokusen 2 makes me really sad. None of 3-D is in it, and I was hoping to at least see some of them. Come on, it's the same old story line, but with different characters, but no one can pass off Sawada Shin or Kuma. I'm looking for the manga of gokusen, because it finishes the story, and it's not gokusen 2 of the drama series.

i love gokusen 1 than gokusen 2 and i'm a bit disappointed at the 2nd season. well, i'm hoping that shin would come and others like that... i don't really thought that hayato and odagiri is so cute but i don't know why they are so cute to me...and we have the same thought. that if hayato and odagiri will become one it will come out as shin but matsumoto jun is a lot cuter than akanishi jin and odagiri, i forgot his name but i love both of them. takeda too and tsucchi...and i love their nya...everytime they saying it...it's really cute....and i can't help but laugh...

I just love GOKUSEN! Cute characters, nice story, catchy music. Yankumi and Grandpa's conversations are touching. Dialogues are worth remembering. You can extract lessons from them. Looking forward to watch the sequel.
